AltonĀ Squires Obituary, Death – On Thursday, January 12, 2023, Alton Ray Squires, who was 68 years old and lived in Bamberg, South Carolina, passed away. On Monday, January 16, 2023, at one o’clock in the afternoon, Funeral Services will be place at Bamberg First Baptist Church, with Rev. Brad Hudson officiating. After the service, the body will be laid to rest in the Bamberg County Memory Gardens.
Ray earned his high school diploma from Bamberg-Ehrhardt and his college degree from the University of South Carolina. He was a devoted fan of the athletic teams at both institutions and was always there to cheer them on. Phoenix Specialty Manufacturing was Ray’s employer for the most of his working life, which spanned a total of 44 years. In 1976, he began working in the machine shop, and in 2020, he was ready to leave from his positions as Plant Manager and Vice President of Manufacturing. Ray was a manager who got his hands dirty and was well liked by everyone in the company.
Mr. Squires was born in Bamberg, the son of the late Alton Floyd Squires and the late Betty Jean Scoggins Squires. Both of Mr. Squires’s parents have now passed away. Surviving family members include his wife, Pamela Hurst Squires; daughters Meredith (John) Tuck and Rebecca Squires Hallman; grandchildren Logan Tuck, Bauer Tuck, and Riley Elizabeth Hallman; and a sister, Lynn Squires (Wayne) Welch. Ms. Dee Squires Nummy was Mr. Squires’ sister, and she passed away before him.
On Sunday, January 15, 2023, the family will host a visitation for guests from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Bamberg First Baptist Church, which is located at 11823 Heritage Highway in Bamberg, South Carolina 29003. The following individuals have volunteered to serve as pallbearers: Brian Darnell, Alton Bunch (Rock), John Hernandez (Ponco), Jeffrey Raysor, Timothy Thompson (Buddy), Anthony Dyches (Bull), Joshua Kinsey (Josh), and Michael Searson (Mike).
Donations in memory of the deceased may be sent to the Bamberg First Baptist Church at PO Box 355 in Bamberg, South Carolina 29003 or to MAMA Animals Shelter at 254 Slow Pitch Road in Bamberg, South Carolina 29003.
The family is receiving assistance from Culler-McAlhany Funeral Home in North, South Carolina at this time.
