Anthony Antonellis Obituary, Death – On June 8th, Anthony J. Antonellis, Sr. of Newton died away quietly, surrounded by his devoted family. Son of the late Pasquale and Carmela (Nardelli) Antonellis, beloved spouse of Bernice Beatrice (Piccirillo) for 65 years. Albert Antonellis and Michael Antonellis Srbrother .’s predeceased them. Sisters Pasquale and Jeanne Antonellis of Pacific Grove, California, and Concetta and Gerry Boyce of Auburndale are left to care for them. He is survived by his children, including Patricia and David Arcese of Attleboro, Anthony Jr. Antonellis of Newton, Theresa Antonellis of Newton, Paul and Catherine Antonellis of Mansfield, Elizabeth Antonellis of Belchertown, James and Tiffany Antonellis of Groton, and Marilyn and Robert Gibson of Amherst, New Hampshire.
He also leaves behind 25 adoring grandchildren and 16 lovely great-grandchildren. Tony obtained his undergraduate degree from Bentley School of Accounting and his master’s degree in accounting from Northeastern University in 1953. After starting his career at the Bacharach Photography business office, Tony spent 32 years working for the Internal Revenue Service in Boston. From 1943 until 1946, Tony served in the US Coast Guard as a veteran aboard the destroyer escort USS Rhodes. Tony took part in the campaigns in Europe, North Africa, and the Pacific. Prior to the D-Day invasion in 1944, he escaped the German U-boat and aircraft attacks on American commerce convoys in the North Atlantic.
During this period, he acquired a love of the ocean and a passion for swimming, which he shared with his adoring children via family trips to places like Plum Island, Scituate, and Cape Cod. Tony was a loyal and generously loving husband, father, brother, honorable soldier, and faithful servant who shared his many benefits with everybody. On June 10th from 6-8 pm and June 11th from 2-4 and 6-8 pm, relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects to Tony and his family at the Magni Funeral Home, 365 Watertown St., Rt. 16, NEWTON. After the 10:30 a.m. funeral mass at Our Lady Help of Christian Parish, 573 Washington St., Newton, on Wednesday, June 12, family and friends are welcome to join the burial at Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
