Brian Byrnes Obituary, Death – Brian Byrnes, who lived in Dorchester and Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, used to live in South Boston. On January 16, 2023, he died peacefully with his family by his side after a short but brave battle with cancer. Brian had lived for 68 years. Loved son of Mary R. (McDonough) and Walter C. Byrnes, Jr., who died before him. Beloved brother of Marie Laundry and her husband Wayne of South Boston, Paula Byrnes and her husband Cathy Carlton of North Fort Myers, FL, Ellen Hartrey, Walter C. Byrnes, III, and his wife Susan, all of Wakefield, and the late Karen Byrnes and Julie Devlin. Mary Nave of South Boston’s favorite nephew. There are also many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and close friends who will miss her. Brian grew up in South Boston on National Street and went to South Boston High School.
He went to the University of Massachusetts Boston and got his bachelor’s degree there. Brian also went to Suffolk University and got an MBA in public administration. He then went to Harvard University to study at the JFK School of Government. Brian started his long career in public administration at Little City Hall in South Boston when he was 19. When he retired as the Special Sheriff of Suffolk County, he was the top law enforcement officer in the county. On Friday, January 20, from 4 to 8 p.m., people can visit the O’Brien Funeral Home at 146 Dorchester St., South Boston. On Saturday, January 21, at 10 a.m., there will be a funeral mass at the Gate of Heaven Church at 615 East Fourth Street South in South Boston.
