Brian Davies Death, Obituary – We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our organization’s founder, Brian Davies, a well-known animal rights campaigner who passed away yesterday at the age of 87 after a protracted illness. On December 27, 2022, Brian passed away quietly in his sleep after having successfully established both Animal Survival International (ASI) and Network for Animals (NFA) into significant organizations with 70 programs all over the world. Brian was a legendary personality in the field of animal welfare. He was a pioneer in the development of new campaigns to assist animals and provide them with relief all over the world.
Through Brian’s efforts with Animal Survival International, the lives of a variety of wild creatures, ranging from pangolins to elephants, have been improved. Network for Animals, the sister organization of Animals Society International, provides dogs, cats, donkeys, and a wide variety of other animals in 26 different countries with food, care, and a compassionate voice that fights to enhance their quality of life. As an activist, Davies was formidable, courageous, crafty, shrewd, and completely driven to achieve his goals.
During his illustrious campaign against Canadian seal hunting, he was arrested for disobeying a government ban on flying to the Canadian ice to witness the cull, he survived what appears to have been an attempt on his life, and he received so many threats of death that he ultimately decided to leave Canada and relocate to the United States. Brian’s doggedness paid off in the end when, in 1987, the European Union passed a law prohibiting the import of pelts derived from baby seals. Gloria, Brian’s wife, will carry on his work alongside a committed team that will respect his legacy by carrying on the fight for animals in peril all across the world.
This fight will be continued in his memory. At this time, the Animals’ Survival Initiative is providing assistance to animals in Kenya, Madagascar, Montenegro, Mozambique, Nigeria, South Africa, the United Kingdom, the United States of America, Ukraine, and Zimbabwe. Brian would be proud of us, but he would also encourage us to accomplish a great deal more. We assure you that we will attempt to contact Brian.
