Charlene Templeton Death, Obituary – On December 15, 2022, Charlene Templeton, who was 83 years old when she passed away, went to be with Jesus and her loved ones in Heaven. She was born in Tennessee to Roscoe and Anna M. (Richards) Leffew, both of whom have since passed away. When Charlene was eight years old, her family relocated to Indiana, and that is where she started attending school.
When Charlene was only 17 years old, she lied about her age in order to get a job at RCA in Marion. This allowed her to work there. That young girl was determined to be self-sufficient, and she worked for the company until she retired in 1998 after 43 years and 7 months of service. At Nick’s Chili Bowl in 1957, she was introduced to John W. Templeton, and the couple went on to get married in Fairmount on June 28, 1958.
When Charlene’s daughters were younger, she volunteered her time with the Girl Scouts and Brownies, and she was also a member of the Delta Chi Sigma Sorority. In June of 2003, she was the one who initiated the Red Hat Mamas, but she had to step down from her role because of health problems. Charlene and John spent their winters in Florida for twenty years, during which time they delighted in the state’s balmy climate, made new friends, and hosted their relatives whenever they came to visit.
Charlene underwent a heart transplant in April of 2006, which, thanks to her resilience and faith, has enabled her to lead a healthy life for a considerable amount of time. Her loved ones and friends will grievously miss her presence among them.
Charlene is survived by her husband of 64 years, John W. Templeton, of Marion; her daughters, Vickie Sue (Butch) Burns and Cindy Lou (Dennis) Todd, both of Marion; her sisters, Wilma Cruse of Tennessee and Reba Smith of Illinois; five grandchildren, Jennifer Fouce, Kristina (Shawn) Smalling, Jonathan Stephens, Stephanie (Joseph) Ice and Preston Todd; and five great-grandchildren, Ari Her siblings Donald Leffew, Edith Williams, Mildred Tucker, and Fern Connors all passed away before her. Her parents also passed away before her.
