Christopher Mercurio Obituary, Death – An altercation that took place in front of the Macy’s shop at the Valencia mall resulted in a deputy shooting and killing a man. The victim, who has now been identified by the Los Angeles County coroner’s office, was shot and killed by the deputy. Christopher Lee Mercurio, 50, a vagrant who was identified by the coroner’s office, was shot outside of the department store at Westfield Valencia Town Center at approximately 10:50 p.m. on January 10.
His death was ruled a homicide. Mercurio succumbed to his injuries and died. Officials working in the Sheriff’s Information Bureau have stated that deputies were sent to the area after receiving a report that someone was illegally entering a restricted area. The tip led to the cops’ arrival at the spot. Before the shooting took occurred, one of the responding deputies got into a physical fight with Mercurio, as stated by Deputy Brenda Serna of the SIB. This transpired prior to the actual shooting taking place.
The deputy was reportedly taken to a local hospital after the incident, where he received treatment and was discharged at 6:35 the next morning, according to a Nixle release from the Sheriff’s Department. The notification stated that the deputy had been treated and was released from the hospital. In an email that was distributed on Friday by the Sheriff’s Information Bureau, a reference was made to the Department of Justice in the state of California.
