Colm Mullarkey Obituary, Death – It is with great sadness that we share the news of Colm Mullarkey’s demise on behalf of the GAA community in Sligo. Colm served as a model for many generations of young people in Sligo and South Sligo in especially as a leader and an inspiration. He was the driving force behind vocational school football for several decades, and he will be remembered in the annals of Sligo GAA history as the manager of our team that won the Connacht minor football championship in 1968.
It took Sligo 53 years to win again after that, and one of the final calls that 2021 Minor team manager Paul Henry and his colleague Colm McGee made before they took the 2021 Sligo minors to the All Ireland semi final in August of that year was to visit Colm at his home. This was one of the last calls they made before they took the 2021 Sligo minors to the All Ireland semi final.
Our deepest sympathies go out to Colm’s wife Maura, his sons Damian and Declan, his daughters Martha and Sylvia, his extended family, former coworkers, neighbors, and friends, as well as the community of Tubbercurry GAA Club.
