Danny Thayer Obituary, Death – This week, we were shocked and saddened to learn that KACP Past President Danny Thayer had died away. Chief Thayer was the head of the Neodesha Police Department for 32 years when he retired as chief in 2018. He had devoted his entire life to serving the needs of his community.
Chief Thayer was a lifetime member of the KACP in addition to serving as President of the KACP in 2017. We are thankful for Chief Thayer’s service because he was a pioneer in Kansas law enforcement and continues to inspire those who follow in his footsteps. Throughout his career, Danny was a terrific buddy who was able to exert a favorable influence on a large number of individuals. He will be greatly missed by all.
His children, Senator Damon Thayer of Georgetown, Kentucky, and Dena Thayer of Charlevoix, as well as four of his grandchildren, Spencer Kilpatrick of Traverse City, Case Kilpatrick of Levering, Daniel Spencer Thayer and Katie Marie Thayer, both of Georgetown, Kentucky, are among those who have carried on in his legacy. Other members of his family that are still alive today include his two sisters, Patricia “Patsy” Thayer of Gilford and Carole Jacques of Caro; his mother-in-law, Rose Woizeschke of Reese; and his sister-in-law Mary Pierce and her husband, Louis Pierce, both of Reese.
Danny was preceded in death not only by his wife and his parents, but also by his two brothers, Robert and Donald Thayer, and his sister, Wilma Razek.
