David Hando BEM Obituary, Death – The news that Newport County AFC club president David Hando BEM passed away at the age of 84 following a protracted illness was tragic for all of the members of the football club.
David was a significant contributor to the club’s transformation as Newport AFC in 1989, which is well known to everyone who follows the Exiles football team.
After the club was reorganized, he served as its chairman for the first nine years after the organization was revived. 2015 marked the year that he was honored with induction into the club’s Hall of Fame as well as the British Empire Medal in recognition of his contributions to football and the larger community of Newport. David continued to follow his favorite sports team, County, both at their home stadium and on the road, and he attended games whenever possible. In addition to that, he was in charge of the club’s Subscription Draw, which is an effective means of generating revenue for the organization.
David served for a significant portion of time on the Newport City Council as a representative for the Liberal Democrats. He once worked in educational administration. In 2013, County was finally able to return to the Football League after an absence of 25 years. When David learned this, he gave his now-famous response: “Mission accomplished.” The club is keeping David, his children, and Mary, his wife, in their thoughts and prayers.
Tomorrow, the club will speak very highly of David and say many complimentary things about him.
