David McIntyre Obituary, Death – The passing of Mr. David McIntyre, the school’s former principal, was met with an outpouring of grief from the whole student body and faculty as it was announced. His compassionate, easygoing, and personable demeanor will be fondly remembered by both current and former students and faculty members alike, and they will refer to him affectionately as “Davy.”
In the years leading up to his promotion to the position of Vice Principal at Magherafelt High School in 1985, he served for a considerable amount of time as the Head of Mathematics at Maghera High School. He was a skilled and gifted educator, and prior to his appointment as Principal in 1989, he was responsible for the creation of the course curriculum as well as the scheduling of classes.
Under his direction, Magherafelt High School was able to thrive, and he served as an outstanding representative for the institution throughout his career. He inspired many others to take up golf and motivated teams to compete in tournaments by sharing his enthusiasm for the sport. It wasn’t until 1994, when he was forced to resign owing to his poor health, that he stopped devoting his life to the betterment of the school community.
We would like to take this opportunity to extend our deepest condolences to the McIntyre family during this difficult time and let them know that they will be in our thoughts and prayers.
