David R. Baum Obituary, Death – On Friday, December 23, 2022, David R. Baum, who had lived in Independence, Iowa for 86 years and had reached the age of 86 years old, passed away at his home. On February 5, 1936, David Isaac Baum, the son of Ronald Isaac Baum and Elsie Delia (ByVank) Baum, was born in Independence, Missouri. David was named after his father and his mother. In 1955, he graduated from Independence High School, where he had attended previously, earning him the status of a high school graduate.
After graduating from high school, he joined the military and did his part to serve his country. The ceremony took place on June 16, 1961, in Washburn, Iowa, and the bride, whose maiden name was Barbara Kay Gerberding, was known at the time by her married name. The year 2011 was the one in which she passed away prior to his passing. Before taking early retirement in 1998, he spent his entire 32-year career working for the heat treatment division of the John Deere Company in Waterloo, Iowa.
He worked there until he reached the age of eligibility for retirement. As a member of the United Automobile Workers Local #838, he was a part of that organization. Mr. Baum is survived by his three sons, Aaron Baum (Amy) of Marion, Iowa, Nathan Baum of Viola, Illinois, and Zachary Baum of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. In addition, Mr. Baum has nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren who will miss him greatly.
In addition to his wife, his parents and one of his brothers, Myron Baum, all passed away before he did. He was also predeceased by his spouse. At eleven in the morning on Monday, December 26th, Funeral Services were held at the White Funeral Home in the city of Independence. The burial took place in the Mt. Hope Cemetery, which is located in the city of Independence.
