Dr. Paul Weldon Obituary, Death – We are very sad to say that Dr. Paul Weldon of Maryland, a well-known member of the Biology department’s faculty for more than 25 years, has died. The teacher who won Notre Dame’s Mullan Distinguished Teacher Award in 2007 was known for being a great one. The trips that Dr. Weldon’s classes took to the American Museum of Natural History in New York City and the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History in Washington, DC will be remembered. He did a lot of work in the field, and the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute published more than 125 of his research papers. The people at NDMU will miss him very much.
Two memorial events have been set up to honor Dr. Weldon’s life. The first will be a virtual event on Sunday, January 22 at 3:30 p.m. Those who want to go can get the Zoom link by sending an email to weldonmemorial@gmail.com. You can also send photos of Dr. Weldon to that address until Friday night at 8 p.m., and they will be shown in a video slideshow at the memorial.
The second event will happen on January 26 at 12:15 p.m. at NDMU in Doyle Formal. People will be able to talk about their favorite memories of Paul and decorate stones in his honor. The TriBeta Biological Honor Society will put the stones around a tree that will be planted on campus this spring.
