Eddie Lopez Obituary, Death – Eddie Lopez was a beloved friend, colleague, and leader as well as the soul of Alma Del Barrio. It is with an exceedingly heavy heart that we must inform you of his passing. He was the soul of Alma Del Barrio.
Eddie, who graduated from LMU in 1978, has been with KXLU since 1976, when he was first beginning his career as a student deejay with Alma del Barrio. Eddie is now an alumnus of LMU.
Over the course of more than four decades at our station, he was a towering figure who made immeasurable contributions to the advancement of salsa music, artists, and musicians. Eddie was someone who cared greatly about the radio station, was the epitome of professionalism when he was on the air at the radio station, was a seasoned curator of everything salsa-related, and was a dedicated advocate for this form of music that gives life.
Eddie was a devoted producer and an essential part of Alma del Barrio’s weekly prerecorded programming both during and after the pandemic. As late as a few months ago, Eddie was still actively involved in the production of this programming. His presence will be greatly missed, but his spirit will live on indelibly in our little area of these LMU blufftops, as well as in the Salsa communities both nearby and further beyond.
In the days that are to come, we ask that you keep his loved ones, the many friends he had, and the listeners who were committed to him in your thoughts and prayers. It’s possible that Eddie’s Sunday afternoon time slot, which he filled on our airways for such a significant portion of his life (from 2:00 to 6:00), will never quite feel the same again. May he finally find rest in the everlasting peace that God provides. Godspeed, Eddie.
