Emerson Dobbs Obituary, Death – On June 8, Emerson James (Jay), who resided in Centerport and New Smyrna Beach, Florida, passed away at the age of 73. Jay was raised in Tennessee and New York City after being born in Englewood, New Jersey. He received his bachelor’s degree from St. Anthony’s High School, his master of fine arts from Rollins College, and his doctorate from Temple University. Diane Lieu, who had been Jay’s high school sweetheart, became his wife. After working for a couple of years in the entertainment industry, Jay decided to put his abilities to use in the real estate industry in Huntington Village.
While he was employed with Sammis, he initiated the establishment of the commercial real estate section. Emerson J. Dobbs Inc., which specializes in commercial real estate in Huntington Village, was established by him in the year 1990. Emerson J. Dobbs III, his son, has continued the family business since his father’s passing. Jay was an original member of the Huntington Village Business Improvement District (BID), which is committed to enhancing the performance of the central business district. He loved to go sailing, golfing, skiing, and traveling the world, but New York and Florida were his two favorite places to call home.
Jay was known to have the best laugh in the world and cherished spending time with his family and friends. He is left by his devoted wife of 49 years, Diane; a daughter named Lucia who is married to Craig; a son named Emerson III who is married to Tania; and five grandchildren. On Tuesday from 5:00 to 8:00 PM, there will be a visitation at the A.L. Jacobsen Funeral Home located at 1380 New York Avenue in Huntington Station. On Wednesday at 2:00 pm, funeral services will be held at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Church, which is located at 53 Prospect Road in Centerport. Cremation followed by private interment at the Huntington Rural Cemetery.
