Floyd Wigfield Obituary, Death – Floyd Wigfield served in the 4th Infantry Division during his time in the military, and his loss has left all of us with a heavy heart. He had reached the age of 104, making him possibly the oldest veteran of the Ivy Division still alive after all this time.
He was a member of the 22nd Regiment and served in Company G. On D-Day, he was one of the soldiers who landed on Utah Beach, and in the days that followed, shrapnel from the opposing forces gravely injured him. Soon after the war, he began working as an electrician. In 2019, he was presented with the French Legion of Honor award for his “bravery and heroism to end a war and free a continent.”
This honor was bestowed upon him in 2019. When we were recording him in his house five years ago, we were fortunate to have had the opportunity. We invite you to take a few moments of your time to view this short video clip in which he discusses Utah Beach.
