Gary Bake Obituary, Death – Gary Baker, who was 74 years old departed this life on Sunday, December 4, 2022, at the residence he called home. Gary’s birth on April 18th, 1948, he was the son of Eleanor Tackett Baker, who passed away before him, and Dan Baker, who also passed away before him.
1967 was the year that Gary completed his high school education at Olive Hill. He did his service to his country with distinction while serving in the United States Army from August 1968 through October 1970, holding the rank of Specialist-5/E-5 and completing two tours of duty in Vietnam.
Gary spent seven years working for a variety of telephone companies after his discharge from the military in a job that required him to splice cable. After that, he was employed by Ashland Oil/Marathon Refineries in Catlettsburg, Kentucky, for the subsequent 28 years, until he finally retired in the year 2004.
He was an avid fan of a wide variety of sporting events and activities, including fishing, hunting, horseback riding, gardening, and watching NASCAR. He was a charter member of American Legion Post #138 and served in numerous roles within the post, including the position of Commander in the year 1982. In addition to that, he had been a member of the Olive Hill Masonic Lodge #629 for the previous 38 years.
Gary is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Callie Ann Harris Baker; one daughter and son-in-law, Sherry Marie Baker (Scott) LaMar of Lewisport, Kentucky; two grandchildren, Nathan Bradford LaMar and Natalie Ann LaMar, both of Lewisport, Kentucky; one sister, Linda Louise Baker Cantrell of McMinnville, Tennessee; one nephew, Phillip Bradford (Lauren) Baker; six nieces, Amelia Cantrell (Chad) Vance of Lebanon, Tennessee,
In addition to these, he is survived by a large number of extended family members and friends who will mourn him profoundly and treasure the opportunity to honor his memory.
