John Arthur Death, Obituary – I’m writing to inform you that John Arthur WRIGHT #1703, a retired Staff Sergeant, passed away on January 8, 2023. His service number was 1703. His military identification number was 1703. It is with deep regret that I have to share this information with you, but unfortunately, things are the way they are. John submitted his application to join the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) on June 26, 1956, and he was subsequently accepted into the force.
After being given his initial assignment in Guelph, John reported to the Guelph Detachment as his first duty station. On May 3, 1963, John was given orders to report to the Exeter Detachment, and shortly thereafter, he was transferred to that location. After John was promoted to the rank of Corporal on August 1, 1970, he requested and was granted a transfer to the Brampton (Snelgrove) Detachment in order to take up his new position. Because of this promotion, John was able to advance in rank.
Because of his promotion, which went into effect right away, Corporal Wright was given his new position in the Career Management Branch on August 1, 1978. This new position was effective right away. John was transferred to the organization’s Training Branch on August 1, 1981 as a result of his promotion to the rank of Sergeant, which took place on August 1, 1981. It is true that this event took place. John was given a promotion to the rank of staff sergeant after he finished yet another year of service and qualified for the position.
On December 31, 1986, Staff Sergeant John Wright retired from the Ontario Provincial Police after having served with the organization for more than 30 years prior to that date. He was eligible for retirement on that day.
After John retired from his position with the Ontario Provincial Police, he became a member of the Ontario Provincial Police Veterans Association through the Guelph Chapter of the organization.
Over the course of the past decade, John has maintained his status as a Life Member of the organization. When John Wright passed away at the age of 89, he had been retired for more than 36 years at the time of his passing, and he had reached the age of 89 at the time of his passing.
