Kevin Higgins Obituary, Death – Kevin Higgins RIP I was shocked and saddened to learn of the passing of the devoted poet Kevin Higgins. He was a romantic with real powers of evocation, as well as a gentle presence, and he was skilled at satire. He was also a deft wordsmith.
His work in arts and health was truly remarkable, particularly in Merlin Park Hospital where he was an innovative and beloved artist in residence. He was an outstanding tutor, mentor, and guide who opened up creative writing for a multitude of delighted voices. His enduring and unmissable ‘Over the Edge’ literature evenings in Galway City Library were curated and programmed with the help of his life partner, Susan Millar Du Mars.
For twenty wonderful years, these evenings brought together established and emerging talents in a way that was joyful and collaborative. Our deepest condolences go out to Susan. Together, Susan and Kevin formed an incredible duo that encouraged Galway to write more and better than he ever had before. He will be missed in Galway.
