On Saturday, December 24, 2022, LaVerne E. Bertin, who had lived most of her life in the city of Grayson, Georgia, passed away at the age of 79 years old. Her demise took place on that particular day. LaVerne, the eldest of her father’s four children, had the unique opportunity to travel extensively during her youth as a result of her father’s job. The eldest of the four children was a girl named LaVerne. She was the first of four children to be born on June 9, 1943, and she was also the first kid to be born in the city of Birmingham in the state of Alabama. The funeral Mass that will be held on Wednesday, January 11, 2023 at 11 AM will take place at Saint Rose of Lima Parish, which is located in Northborough, Massachusetts at 244 W. Main Street.

Bertin, the man who would go on to become the love of her life, in the region surrounding Washington, DC, where the family ultimately decided to make their home. They got married and moved to Northborough, Massachusetts, where they would go on to raise their own family and develop together over the course of the subsequent forty plus years thanks to the supportive community that Saint Rose of Lima Parish provided for them through their faith in the Catholic Church.

LaVerne began her education at Clark University, where she received her bachelor’s degree. After finishing her coursework at Clark, she moved on to Boston College, where she was awarded her doctorate. She spent the most of her working life imparting to pupils of diverse ages and backgrounds the knowledge that she had gained about Christianity. Her students came from all walks of life. Donald, LaVerne’s devoted and loving spouse of more than 60 years, went away before she did.
Her son Richard Bertin and his wife Mary, who live in Round Rock, Texas, and her daughter Laurie Valenzuela and her husband Michael, who live in Loganville, Georgia, are the only members of her family who have survived her passing. In addition, she is survived by her grandchildren Malory Sutton (Holly), Jacob Wolf, James Bertin, and Norah Kay Lee Warren, as well as by her sisters Caroline Plumb (Maurice) of Annandale, Virginia, Charlotte Seale of Grasonville, Maryland, and Roxanne Ankney (Kevin) of Annandale, Virginia. Malory Sutton (Holly) was the grandmother of Jacob Wolf, James Bertin, and Norah Kay Lee Warren.
