Lorri Guffey Obituary, Death – Lorri Guffey has sadly passed away, leaving family and friends in a state of grief. She had been a role model to students at the time when she worked as a teacher, and one of her students issued a statement following her death. “I was one of the first people to get up this morning, and one of the first things I read was that Mrs. Guffey had passed away unexpectedly over the weekend. It was one of those posts that I kept thinking about throughout the morning. I just couldn’t shake it. When I started attending Cypress in the fifth grade, Lori West Guffey was the first teacher I had there. She was the primary impetus for the formation of the entire class. As a result of the school starting out small and adding one grade at a time, all of us were a year ahead of the other students. In 1998, they extended the elementary school by two grades so that the students would no longer have to attend SWCS.
As I continued to mull it over in my mind, the realization gradually dawned on me. When she taught me, she was a parent to children of the same age as my own. She is currently younger than my parents were when they taught me. Currently, she is younger. Today, whenever I logged onto Facebook, I was met with a fresh post about her written by one of her former classmates. Because she taught kindergarten this year, I was familiar with some of the names of the students, and I had the startling realization that some of the children in her class could now be my own.
To make a long tale short, during that school year she was really helpful to my class and did a lot for us.
As I dug out my old yearbook, which is in black and white and features images that are so blurry that you can hardly tell who is in them, I wished that all of my former classmates were doing well and hoped that they were all happy and well. I only have contact with one of them, Mrs. Guffey, but I wish I could tell her that my wife and I are thriving in life and that perhaps she played a role in our success. Because time moves at such a breakneck pace, it is critical to make the most of every moment by surrounding yourself with the people you care about and taking pleasure in the experiences you share with them.”
