It was a 13-year-old child with a BB gun, according to the Martin County Sheriff’s Office. According to the investigators, the boy is the grandson of the school’s groundskeeper, and the BB pistol was used to kill rats. The sheriff’s office claims that the youngster was bringing the BB gun for his grandfather.
According to a Martin County Sheriff’s Office Facebook post, a teacher at Hope Rural School saw someone scale the fence while brandishing a firearm. He departed in a gray Dodge Durango after spotting the instructor.
Martin County Sheriff’s Office released a statement following the alleged shooting at Martin County School District today. The statement is read -“The Martin County Sheriff’s Office has identified the 13-year-old male who hopped the fence at Hope Rural School while wielding what seemed to be a rifle but turned out to be a BB gun.
At the time of writing, detectives are speaking with him. He has been positively identified and has admitted to being the subject of the investigation. The 13-year-old is the grandson of the school’s groundskeeper. The BB gun was used to dispatch vermin. The 13-year-old was looking for his grandfather’s BB gun. There is currently no active danger. Thank you to the teacher who reported this.”
