“I’m definitely not in the right frame of mind to share a post that does my brother Mike Colvin justice, but because he is so loved, it’s important that this comes from family first, rather than Jimmy Jack Garvin from Walden… If you’ve been following my brother Michael’s journey since he was diagnosed with ANCA Vasculitis, you’ll know he’s had a rough year in and out of the hospital.
And, throughout it all, he has remained upbeat and positive, making it all the more heartbreaking to share. People notice when Michael doesn’t post on Facebook, and I’ve spoken to so many people in the last 7 days who have been wondering how he was doing and why he wasn’t responding. So here you have it…
He was in critical condition as a result of an insidious bacterial infection that was attacking his organs. The hospital was doing everything possible to help him, but he began to show signs of multi-organ failure. He wasn’t in pain because we always asked him.
I picked up my sister Carolyn at the airport on Wednesday, and she got to spend every day with him while staying in lovely Dover, NJ. Since his birth, Michael has relied on music to keep him calm, and today was no exception. His heart stopped beating at 4:15 p.m. today, while The Beatles’ I’ll Follow The Sun was playing.
I’m sure tributes and photos will begin to pour in, and please know that Michael was grateful for all of your well wishes and encouragement during this difficult time. He never doubted his ability to recover. Every day when he woke up, his main goal was to do whatever it took to get home and be with his beautiful daughter Bryce.
I apologize for informing you of this terrible news, but I felt I needed to keep you all updated tonight. I’m surprised Michael hadn’t already written this for me… If you listen to our show, you’ll understand what I mean.
We will share more information about the arrangements once we have it.
Thank you very much
PS: The 120 shows Michael produced will live on, and I have a feeling show #121 will as well. Simply be patient.
“I had to put my words together after learning of Mike Colvin’s death from John Tigman Rutigliano.
Mike was someone I knew for a long time. Let’s Dance is grateful for having known the entire WPDH “Airforce” back in the good old days of rock’n’roll. And countless other memories that we will not share.
He was a big fan of Locks That Rock Hairdesign, which I recently sponsored on the Colvin Brothers Show. My heart has never healed from the loss of Bob, Frank, Carolyn, and Fran. Now consider this.
May he rest in peace… he fought hard and had a lot of love for us all, and for that I will be eternally grateful. Can you imagine how much fun they’re having?
Mike You were a remarkable human being… love, strength, and prayers to his family”
