Neil Stevenson Obituary, Death – It is with heavy hearts that the Stevenson family shares the news of the demise of Neil Stevenson. Many of you will have had the pleasure of knowing Neil, either on a personal level or through your involvement with the garden center. He never really retired and continued to be active, despite the fact that he had been struggling with Alzheimer’s disease during the past few years.
In 1950, Neil followed in his father’s footsteps and started working at Torwood. He and his wife Elma were the driving forces behind the development of the successful family business that exists here today. His son John, daughter Dorothy, and grandson Jamie are currently running the company that their grandfather founded. Many of you will have happy memories of visiting the center over the years, whether it was a popular florist throughout the 1960s and 1970s or a market garden at the former site in the town of Torwood during the 1940s and 1950s.
Both of these businesses were located at the old site. In 1979, Neil, who had always had an entrepreneurial spirit, decided to construct a garden center in Torwood, which was a novel idea in the field of horticulture at the time. This company went from strength to strength over the course of several years before relocating to its current location in 2003. Neil was in charge of building at that time.
