Nic Bonotto Obituary, Death – The news that Nic Bonotto has passed away hurts our hearts, and we are sorry to have to inform you this. At his house in Los Gatos, California, on January 7, 2023, he passed away peacefully in his sleep. He was in his 44th year and was diagnosed with ALS. Nic was born in Salinas, California, but his family relocated to Napa when he was eight years old. Prior to that, they had been residents of Gonzales, a sleepy agricultural community. He cherished his time spent close to farms and in the great outdoors, and he carried that passion with him throughout the remainder of his life. The majority of his youth was spent participating in various athletic activities. Skiing at Tahoe and Bear Valley with his family and other friends was by far his favorite activity. When he relocated to Napa, that’s when he started hanging out with his best friend Paul Hartman and the rest of the Napa boys. They got into a lot of trouble together, the kind of trouble that he continued to get into for the rest of his life.
When Nic competed in track and field, he achieved national records in several events, including the javelin throw. In addition to that, he began snowboarding, and he quickly discovered that he cherished the sensation of floating over the snow. When he was in the sixth grade, he participated in a marine science camp on Catalina Island. There, he made the acquaintance of Suzie (Nishikawa) Bonotto, who would later become his wife as well as a lifelong pen companion. Nic attended Napa High School, where he was both a student of distinction and a leader among his peers. Nic had a passion for singing and was a member of the Napa High School Men’s Choir. Because of his passion for music, he was able to go to New Zealand and Australia with the choir.
Additionally, he frequently attended concerts all across the Bay Area, including appearances by Ben Harper with the Napa crew. Nic is survived by his devoted wife, Suzie, his three incredible children, Mason (12), Evie (10) and Ellie (8), of whom he was so proud, his loving parents, Pam and Vince, and his loving older brother, Vince, as well as a lot of other wonderful family and friends who have been there for Nic and his family through all of the good and bad times. Nic was a man who always put his family first. To Nic, please know that we adore you. We are grateful to have you in our life and for the contribution you’ve made to improving the world. There will be a ceremony in April 2023 to celebrate the life of the deceased individual at a location that has not been decided upon as yet.
