Norma J. Lynch, who was 93 years old, died on Monday, January 16, 2023. She went to heaven to be with the people she loved there. She lived at St. Francis Terrace/Home for the last four years of her life, where she was cared for by the staff. The girl who used to be known as Norma Jean Ellingson was born on December 11, 1929, in Decorah, Iowa. John Harry Ellingson and Lesa (Vinge) Ellingson, her parents, farmed for a long time in the area around Decorah, where they also raised their daughter. She got her high school diploma from Decorah High School in 1948.
On August 24, 1949, she married Donald J. Lynch at the Big Canoe Lutheran Church in Decorah, Iowa. In the year 1954, they moved to Fond du Lac. Before she retired, Norma worked as a secretary for the Fond du Lac School District for a long time. She went to the Church of Our Savior in Fond du Lac, where she felt like she belonged and was very involved with the congregation. Norma loved to garden and was very proud of the beautiful flowers that she had on her property. In her later years, some of her favorite things to do were reading, playing bridge and golf, and taking trips with her kids.
Norma also liked spending time with her family and playing competitive games, such as cribbage, where she once got a perfect “29” hand, which is a very rare thing to do. She made sure to stay in touch with the family members she loved the most throughout her whole life. Norma was a caring friend, wife, mother, and aunt, as well as a loving family member. Before Don died in 2007, the couple had been together for 58 years. They were given two children, Dan (Patty) Lynch and Jeannie (Dave) Domenget, both of whom are still alive today.
Her brother Vernon (Sandi) Ellingson is also still alive and well. He lives in Naples, Florida. Her parents, Beatrice (Irvin) Iverson and Hazel (Walter) Bigler, and her brother Lester, who was killed in World War II, all died before she did. Her husband Don, who was her greatest joy, died first. Don, the man she married and the love of her life, also died before her.
