Shannonside Northern Sound is a dual radio franchise in Ireland that broadcasts in Cavan, Monaghan (Northern Sound Radio), Leitrim, Longford, and Roscommon (Shannonside FM). It controls 46.9% of the market.
Northern Sound Radio can be heard on 96.3 MHz in Monaghan, 94.8 MHz in Cavan, and 97.5 MHz in Carrickmacross. Shannonside FM can be heard on 104.1 MHz in Longford/Roscommon, 97.2 MHz in South Leitrim, 95.7 MHz in Boyle, and 104.6 MHz in Boyle (West Roscommon).
Shannonside FM and Northern Sound Radio were founded as separate radio stations in 1989. In 1995, both licenses and franchise areas were combined to form Ireland’s first regional station. Shannonside Northern Sound was purchased by Radio Kerry Holdings in 2005.
Damien O’Reilly, Ciaran Mullooly, Fran McNulty, Audrey Carville, Sinead Hussey, Justin Treacy, Niall Donnelly, Gareth O’Connor, Fintan Duffy, and many others began their careers at the station.
With the exception of The Joe Finnegan Show, the two stations operate on separate schedules from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays (9am – 11am). Outside of these hours, both stations broadcast the same programming.
