Police Shoot, Kill Man in Deptford, New Jersey – A man was fatally shot and murdered by police during an interaction that took place in South Jersey on a Sunday afternoon. The investigation into the deadly shooting that took place on Fox Run Road in Deptford, Gloucester County, was announced late in the day by the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office.
A preliminary investigation, according to the AG’s office, found that Deptford police officers went to a house after receiving a call to 911 from a resident there.
The office of the Attorney General issued a statement that read, “At 1:12 p.m., one officer fired his service weapon, wounding a victim.” “Emergency medical personnel responded to the scene in an attempt to assist the injured individual; but, at 1:55 p.m., he was pronounced dead at the scene,” On its Facebook page, the Deptford Township Police Department initially stated that the road closure on Fox Run was due to an ongoing investigation. There was no further comment made by the AG’s office.
The office of the AG has issued a statement saying that “this investigation is being done in compliance with Attorney General Directive 2019-4.” “This directive sets clear standards and procedures for doing such investigations in order to implement the statutory requirement that the Attorney General’s Office investigate any death that occurs during an encounter with a law enforcement officer acting in the officer’s official capacity or while the decedent is in custody,” the directive states.
