Robert Mello Obituary, Death – Robert L. Mello of Norwalk, Connecticut, died at the age of 75, after a courageous battle with leukemia. on December 31, 2022. Robert Mello was born on May 20, 1947, in Long Island City, New York, to Rose and Frank Mello. He attended St. Mary’s Grammar School in Long Island City and graduated from Power Memorial Academy in Manhattan before attending Long Island University for his MBA.
During his long career in finance, he toured the world and developed a passion for teaching while working as an adjunct professor at Fordham University’s Gabelli School of Business. After retiring, his passion for children and education drew him back to Riverside School in Greenwich, CT, where he had been a beloved paraprofessional for several years.
He was also on the board of the Children’s Healing Institute in West Palm Beach, Florida. His most valued job, though, was that of “Poppy” to his grandchildren, whom he adored more than anything else in the world.
Robert had numerous interests, including a love of wine and Italian cooking, reading classic literature, listening to Frank Sinatra music, collecting Lionel trains, and traveling, especially to see friends he met while living in Italy, the South of France, and Florida after retiring. Robert enjoyed every moment of his life, making friends wherever he went and always dressed to the nines, whether he was going to his grandchildren’ baseball games or out on the town.
Robert’s daughter Patricia Wuest of Winooski, VT, son Robert (Krista) Mello of Fairfield, CT, and sister Irene Rinaldi of Maspeth, NY survive him. His grandchildren, Christopher Wuest, Catherine (Cody) Mannigan, Owen Mello, and Henry Mello, as well as his nieces, nephews, relatives, and many friends, will miss him greatly.
Our family would also want to thank Dr. Francesca Montanari and the Greenwich Hospital oncology nursing staff for their dedication, talent, and compassion throughout his sickness.
On Thursday, January 19th, at 10:30 a.m., a memorial mass will be performed at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 10-08 49th Avenue, Long Island City, New York.
