Ruth Perri Obituary, Death – Ruth Anna Perri, who was 82 years old and from Manchester, passed away at the Community Medical Center in Toms River on January 20, 2023. The Oliverie Funeral Home, located at 2925 Ridgeway Road in Manchester, will host a memorial gathering on Thursday from 4 to 8 o’clock in the evening. The funeral liturgy will take place on Friday at 11 AM at St. John’s Church in Lakehurst, and the interment will take place at Brigadier general Wm C Doyle NJ Veterans Cemetery in Arneytown after the service. She was born in Lucerne, Switzerland, but later moved to New York City’s Brooklyn borough, and then later to Staten Island. Before relocating to Manchester, she and her spouse lived there continuously from 1963 until 2001.
She was able to communicate effectively in Swiss German, French, Italian, and English, and she received her doctorate in education from Wagner College on Staten Island, New York. She spent almost 25 years as a Foreign Language Teacher and College Professor until taking early retirement in 2001. During that time, she taught three different languages and ESL programs at Wagner College and Union High School. Ruth was a participant in the activities of the Bocce Ball Club, the Italian American Club, and the Renaissance Red Hat Society. Her interests included going to the opera, listening to classical music, and visiting family in Europe.
She was recognized as an incredible cook among her family, and when she was younger she swam the length of Lake Lucerne. Her husband, Ernest M. Perri, who passed away in 2013, was her immediate predecessor. Her children, Patricia DeRosa and husband Vincent, and Daniel Perri and wife Mary, as well as her brothers Kurt Niederhauser, Martin Gmunder, Beat Gmunder, and Renee Fischer, as well as her five grandchildren, Kristin, Matthew, Meghan, Alyssa, and Amanda, and her four great-grandchildren, Abigail, Jackson, Camille, and Sophie, are among those who are left behind.
