Stephen Patterson Obituary, Death – It is with deep sadness that we have to tell you of the passing of retired member Captain Stephen Patterson. The following news is being made with a profound feeling of loss on our part. On April 1, 1973, Captain Patterson started his career in the firefighting sector.
Prior to this, he had served in the United States Air Force for many years, rising through the ranks to the rank of Staff Sergeant. Within the Cranford Fire Department, where he had previously served, he was given the opportunity for a promotion to the post of Fire Inspector in the month of January 1981. He was first promoted to the level of Lieutenant in July of 1985, and then several years later, in January of 1994, he was elevated to the position of Captain.
Even though he retired from the fire department on September 1, 2005, Captain Patterson continued to serve the town in the building department as a fire inspector after he resigned from the fire department. His resignation was effective September 1, 2005. The Captain was not only a fantastic friend, husband, and father, but also an excellent example for others to follow. Those who had the good fortune to have known him will be left with a deep sense of loss after his departure.
